This family has been in front of my camera many times since their first maternity session with their oldest. Several times a year, they allow me into their home to capture them just as they are, a beautiful family with now four adorable children. Their youngest turned one last month and of course, a lifestyle cake smash was placed on the books. There’s nothing sweeter than watching a baby’s curiosity, excitement, and then the resulting sugar rush of a cake smash. There’s beauty in allowing your photographer the most freedom when creating images. Combining this with the afternoon light in their home and letting life happen as it’s intended makes my heart swell!

This little gal, who is usually a go-with-the-flow baby, was quite intimidated by our simple setup of placing the cake in front of her on the floor. I believe it was actually my camera that intimidated her the most, as she felt I was expecting her to perform. Bless her heart! This happens sometimes with my tiniest clients as they just aren’t used to a very large camera and the stranger behind it. Giving them their space and creating some normalcy usually helps a lot. When unexpected tears came, I felt terrible. But with mom’s blessing, I invited her siblings to surround her as a distraction. Although it took a bit of time and some spoon feeding of cake, you’ll see we ended up with a precious set of images that I absolutely adore!
