"Photography is the story I fail to put into words."

Features and Awards

Photography was a passion from a very young age. When visiting my grandparents house, I would pour through the many photo albums. I loved the feel of old photographs and the stories they told. Photographs were art to me and I wanted to create my own. At some point I received a pink and purple 110 film camera. I remember sitting on the floor in my playroom, lining up Barbie and her bridesmaids, and meticulously photographing her wedding to Ken. I'd easily go through a roll of film in 5 minutes, begging my mom to quickly send it off to York for development. I soon moved on to living subjects, such as my little brother (sorry Mike!), and make him model in front of a blanket backdrop held up by my bedroom door. I still have those photos and no, I won't share them for the sake of not embarrassing my brother!
Fast forward to after college graduation, I married Tim, a handsome railroad gentleman with the prettiest blue eyes. Five years later a precious baby boy helped me find photography again. I purchased my first dSLR and nothing stopped me. With the instant gratification of digital and willing subjects such as my dogs and son, my creativity sparked even more. I soon found myself being asked to take photos for friends and family. A side business snowballed out of nowhere while working as a critical care RN at St. Mary's Hospital. Laura Matthews Photography was born in 2009 and I left the hospital taking business full time in 2011!
I've spent the last several years photographing families and high school seniors with a fun and relaxing approach. My on-location portrait style is full of light and colorful while my lifestyle sessions take on a cozier, softer feel. I'm so blessed to have the support of hundreds of clients who return year after year. The relationships I've formed through this unplanned, but very welcome business have brought so much joy to my heart. I'm forever grateful for the support of my family as I follow this creative path.
