Sentimental Senior and Family Photographer based in Glen Allen, VA

meet laura

This is no ordinary newborn blog post. Yes, I’m going to share the joy of Emma’s arrival and her first family portraits, but first I’m going to share how I met this beautiful family. Last year, I received a call from a local hospital for a family wanting a photo session of their infant daughter before she passed. This baby girl was named Madelyn. She was extraordinarily beautiful; a sleeping angel during the time I photographed her and her family. I was touched by this Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep session in a way I hadn’t been with others. You see, I usually photograph babies soon after they leave this world. Madelyn’s time was short, and I had the hardest time saying goodbye to this family. When I left the NICU the tears immediately flowed. I couldn’t imagine the strength these sweet parents had to muster. I couldn’t get over the way her one and a half year old sister gently cuddled her in her tiny arms and held her hand so gently. I thought of Madelyn so very much and when her mother contacted me several days later to tell me Madelyn had passed, I grieved. What a beautiful little life that came to an end too soon.

Almost a year later, I received an email from Madelyn’s mom that she was expecting again. I was so overjoyed and honored she wanted me to capture this baby’s newborn photos. A week ago, I was reunited with this beautiful family and met their precious 13 day old daughter, Emma. This baby girl, a “rainbow baby,” is just as extraordinarily beautiful as her big sisters. This family has let me capture both the saddest and happiest times of their lives; but both just as beautiful and precious. Seeing how they have displayed my photos of Madelyn throughout their home was so very touching. I love the ways they plan on celebrating and remembering her without dwelling on the incredible loss they experienced with her passing. What a true testament of faith!

Thank you, Brian, Laura, McKenzie, Madelyn and Emma for touching my life. I just love these beautiful portraits of you all…
